Bluebell Ward, at Walton Hospital in Chesterfield, is the home of our older adult inpatient mental health service for northern Derbyshire. It opened on 7 January 2025 after being refurbished during 2024.
Bluebell Ward provides inpatient mental healthcare for 12 older adults with functional mental health health needs. This service relocated from Pleasley Ward at the Hartington Unit on the nearby Chesterfield Royal Hospital site.
Bluebell Ward meets the specific environmental needs and safety requirements of older adults, and provides access to specialist clinicians. The refurbishment of the ward is in line with national guidance and meets the standard of a newly built hospital.
It is a mixed-sex ward and all bedrooms are single rooms with en-suite facilities.
Walton Hospital is approximately three miles drive from Chesterfield Royal Hospital. There is plenty of on-site free parking for both staff and patients.
Walton Hospital offers a wide range of outpatient specialities in the purpose-designed Peter McCarthy Suite, which was officially opened in 2016. This includes consultation rooms, group therapy areas and a gym.
There is a restaurant and coffee shop in the main Walton Hospital building.
