This page is all about website child pages. Learn what they are, how you view them and how you create them.

What is a child page?

A child page is a page that is subordinate to another. When you are viewing any page on the sitemap, you can see if it has one or more child pages.

How do I view a child page?

You can view a child page in a number of ways, depending on where it is located on the website. If it is on the third level of the navigation, you should be able to see it in the website’s ‘mega nav’ (the navigation menu at the top of each page).

How do I create a child page?

We recommend that you contact the Communications team before creating a new page. It’s important to agree that a new page really is required. Our approach on the site is to create longer pages rather than lots more separate pages.

Go to the sitemap and find your chosen ‘parent page’. Left click and select ‘add page’. Give the page a short and meaningful ‘page name’ (which will automatically become the ‘page slug’ to create the page’s URL or web address) and a ‘description’. Then click ‘submit to workflow’.

What happens next?

A member of the Communications team will check the new page that you’ve created. If all is well, they will approve it.

Remember – if you urgently need a page to go live, please call the Communications team.
