Welcome to Ward 35

Ward 35 is:

20 Bedded – there is space for 20 service users to stay on the ward at any time.

All-female – In line CQC guidance wards should offer same-sex accommodation, Ward 35 provides this service for female service users, those who identify as a woman or those who are non-binary and choose to be in a female environment.

Working age adult – primarily those between the ages of 18 and 65, we may sometimes care for service users outside of this range with the guidance of specific policies.

Acute– the ward treats people in mental health crises when it is felt it is not safe enough to be treated at home.

Inpatient – people cared for here are admitted to hospital which means staying overnight – the purpose of this is to ensure the minimisation of psychological distress and the promotion of resilience and self-management.

Mental Health – people admitted onto the ward are admitted because they need support and care for their mental health crisis; everyone on the ward is receiving care for their own mental health needs so please be sensitive of each other’s struggles.

Our team is very enthusiastic and are always learning from our patients in promoting good care. We achieve this through engagement and feedback from patients and carers so we can constantly improve our service and how deliver your care.

You can identify the staff by names badges and our staff photo board. The team includes professionals such as a consultant psychiatrist, ward manager, lead nurses, occupational therapists, registered nurses, nursing assistants and an admin

All patients will be allocated a “Named Nurse”, you will have regular 1:1 session, and they will formulate a patient centred care plan with you. Please don’t hesitate to approach them at any time, or one of the other nurses if your named nurse is not in.

Ward 35 has shared expectations of staff, patients and carers - these are that all people will speak to each other with respect and will endeavour to listen to each other. The Ward 35 team is made up of people with a diverse range of backgrounds and life experiences; we aim to approach our roles professionally, with an open mind; being non-judgemental and focusing on the strengths of individuals. The mutual expectations we promote work in conjunction with our patients which we hope will create the safest possible environment for everybody.

Ward 35 prides itself on working alongside patients and carers to provide effective, individualised care and treatment. This is care and treatment that will help you to recover sooner and that is tailored to your needs. Your care plan may be different to others as your circumstances are different, this is how we aim to achieve equality of outcome for our service users.  We promote involvement in your care and treatment.

Everyone is seen at least once a week by the consultant psychiatrist or a member of their team to see and discuss with you your individual needs and to support your individual plan of care. The junior members of the medical team are also on the ward daily throughout the week.

Please don’t hesitate throughout any of your admission to speak to us if you are unsure of anything at all.
