Two senior Trust colleagues have featured this week in trade publications praising their roles in promoting inclusion within the Trust – on the eve of our involvement at the Derbyshire Pride celebration event in Derby.
Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Finance Claire Wright is in the latest issue of Healthcare Finance, published by the Healthcare Financial Management Association, in her role as Trust Board champion for the LGBT+ network, which aims to create a supportive and inclusive network for LGBT+ staff in the Trust.
Claire comments that all new Trust members of staff hear at induction how important we believe inclusion is. She says: “We want everyone to be happy to be themselves and respect each other.”
And Chief Executive Ifti Majid is featured in a Health Service Journal article about pioneering black and minority ethnic leaders within the NHS.
The Mental Health Network has brought together six inspiring leaders – including Ifti – to take part in a podcast series exploring their experiences of leadership as BAME individuals.
Ifti is quoted as saying: “Something I wondered in my early career is ‘where are those role models? Where do I look up there and see people like me?’”
The articles are very timely, as Trust colleagues and members are involved in tomorrow’s (Saturday 8 September) Derbyshire Pride event in Derby City Centre.
There will be a parade through town from 11.30am, followed by stalls, music and DJs in Curzon Street from 12 noon – 6pm.
In addition, the Trust has recently been invited to speak at a mental health workforce conference about its BAME reverse mentoring scheme, where a diverse range of staff at all levels of the organisation mentor the executive team and share their experiences.
