As part of Occupational Therapy Week 2018, a range of activities took place across the Trust to promote the valuable role of Trust OTs.
The Recovery Group run by the Occupational Therapy team at the Kedleston Unit has been focusing on the artistic talent of the unit’s service users. The unit’s OT team, including OT Amanda Alston and OT assistant Gemma Burrows, staged an exhibition of the work of several of the artists in the reception area.
The display includes paintings, drawings and pastels as well as designs by service users for the cover of a folder to be used in the unit.
There is also a display of the work of the group’s Upcycling project, where service users work to improve old and unloved items of furniture such as chests of drawers and tables, giving them new life and a new look.
A display all week in the foyer of the Ashbourne Centre at Kingsway Hospital promoted the valuable work of OTs across the Trust and also encouraged people to make a pledge as an OT.
OTs at the Hartington Unit marked the special week and the anniversary of the Armistice with a baking activity, making poppy cakes to share. Also at the Hartington Unit, OTs working with the Recovery Group took the time to create personal recovery toolboxes.
OT staff at Dale Bank View in Swadlincote celebrated the week with a display posing the question “Could an Occupational Therapist support you to achieve your goals?”
Trust Director of Nursing and Patient Experience Carolyn Green sent out a supportive message to the Trust’s OTs:
“When I think of OTs in our Trust I think of aptitude, compassion, skill and technical capability to transform people’s lives through their many talents – in how they assess, enable and support people to achieve their goals. The NHS is lucky to have such a talented set of professionals. Thank you to our OTs.”
