Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to confirm the appointment of Tony Edwards as a Non-Executive Director.
Tony, who lives in Derbyshire, starts his role with the Trust today, 1 August 2022.
An accountant by background, Tony has held a variety of senior finance and leadership roles both in the public and private sector, including being Vice President and General Manager of Luxfer Gas Cylinders. He is currently a Governor at the University of Derby where he sits on the Strategy, Finance and Planning Committee and chairs their Governance Oversight Board for their new Business School development project.
Prior to his role at the University of Derby, Tony spent 11 years as a Governor at Nottingham Trent University.
Tony said: “I am delighted to be appointed to the Board at Derbyshire Healthcare and look forward to getting involved in the many exciting development projects underway at the Trust.
“As part of the role I will chair the Finance and Performance Committee, overseeing all aspects of financial management and operational performance.”
Tony replaces Richard Wright who had been a Non-Executive Director at the Trust since 2016.
Selina Ullah, Chair of Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I hope Tony has a very warm welcome into the Trust and I look forward to working closely with him.
“Tony will offer a fantastic perspective on the Trust’s finance and performance from his long service within the industrial and higher education sectors.
“On behalf of everyone at the Trust, I would also like to thank Richard Wright for his contribution to the Trust over recent years. We are extremely grateful for his contributions and wish him every success for the future.”
Non-Executive Directors use their skills and experience to bring an independent perspective to the Board and to challenge the Executive Directors in decision-making and on the Trust's strategy. Collectively they work as a Board to:
- Formulate plans and strategy
- Ensure accountability
- Shape culture and capability
- Commit to the highest standards of probity, integrity and governance
- Ensure that the Board acts in best interests of patients and the public.
NHS Governors seek to appoint Non-Executive Directors with a mix of skills and experiences from a range of backgrounds who can understand the needs and priorities of their local communities.
The Trust’s Council of Governors approved Tony’s appointment as a Non-Executive Director for a three-year term of office, ending on 31 July 2025.
