An estates technician at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is set to retire from his role this month, after 49 years of continuous NHS service.
Clive Moore, from Derby, has worked for the Trust since 1975. He spent 25 years as a joiner and now works on day-to-day maintenance as an estates technician, while also serving as a key member of the Trust’s League of Friends charity.
Clive has won internal Trust awards and been interviewed by Derbyshire Life magazine due to his passionate, dedicated and highly enthusiastic approach to working for the Trust – particularly around fundraising for the Trust’s League of Friends charity and for Rainbows Hospice. Clive has brought in donations of around £38,000 for all charities he has worked with, including the League of Friends, Rainbows Hospice, Children in Need and more. He is well known across the Trust for hosting the League of Friends summer fayre and for performing a magic show as Clive-o the Clown.
In his spare time, Clive is also the chairman of the Northern Magic Circle, often entertaining patients and their families as a magician.
In recent years, Clive has scaled back on physical duties following a Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis, However, he has kept himself busy by dealing with contractors and managing emergency maintenance jobs. As Clive explained in an interview with Derbyshire Life at the time of the NHS’s 75th anniversary, “I have Parkinson’s but Parkinson’s hasn’t got me.”.
Mark Powell, Chief Executive at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Clive should be incredibly proud of everything he has achieved over his impressively long career in the NHS, working for this Trust. He has undoubtedly made a real impact and difference to so many lives – spanning across patients, visitors as well as Trust colleagues. Clive is described by many as more like a family member than a colleague.
“Clive embodies exactly what it means to be a part of the Derbyshire Healthcare family – going above and beyond in everything he does with patients consistently in mind, who have benefited from many positive experiences thanks to all his efforts over the years.”
Jordan Yates, Head of Estates and Facilities at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I feel very grateful to have known Clive. He has been a highly valued member of the Estates and Facilities department over the years and will be sorely missed by us all. Despite his Parkinson’s diagnosis, this has not stopped him from supporting patients, visitors and colleagues at the Trust. Instead, he has adapted his role around this which just goes to show the type of hardworking and caring person he is.
“On behalf of our team, thank you for all you have done over the last 49 years and all the best with the future.”
In his own words to his Derbyshire Healthcare colleagues, Clive said: “After 49 years of service within the NHS, and at Derbyshire Healthcare for a large part of this, I think it is the right time for me to retire.
“I am particularly proud of my fundraising work to support the Trust’s League of Friends Charity and hope that my efforts of the years have helped to put smiles on may people’s faces and that I have made their patient experience that little bit easier.
“As the saying goes, you will never work a day in your life if you do a job you love – I can confirm that is truly how I have felt throughout my NHS career. Whilst I am looking forward to retirement and spending more time with my partner, this is a very bittersweet time and possibly the hardest decision I have had to make. I still plan to be involved in the Trust’s League of Friends charity beyond retirement and hope to continue bringing in valuable funds and resources for the Trust’s services and its people.
“Lastly, I want to say a big thank you to everyone who I have met over the last 49 years who have made my experience so special. Team Derbyshire Healthcare will always hold a special place in my heart so thank you for all the memories.”
