Dementia Action Week (13 - 19 May) is an annual event aimed at raising awareness about improving dementia care in the UK and encourage people and organisations to act regarding dementia. Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust as well as other local NHS Trusts and organisations have a range of support available to help those impacted by dementia, including a virtual dementia question and answer sessions and drop-in dementia hub service.

The Trust is holding a free virtual information event to help those affected by dementia, whether patients, family members or carers.
The free question and answer session is aimed at people experiencing memory problems or those diagnosed with dementia and their carers, as well as anyone who wishes to learn more about support.
There is a chance for an informal discussion with a friendly team including doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, support workers and psychologists trained in memory problems and dementia care, who will be available to answer questions and provide advice.
The session takes place on Wednesday 15 May at 6-8pm via Microsoft Teams. Please email dhcft.specialistdayservices@nhs.net to request an invite.
Further support available on a ‘drop-in’ basis at information hub
The Trust, which supports older aged adults with a range of mental health problems including dementia and memory loss, has a Dementia Hub service to provide information and advice to people who are living with, or supporting someone with, dementia.
The hub will provide readily available information and support under one roof and is being run once a month by the Trust’s Older Adult Day Services team along with system partners including Alzheimer’s Society, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, Making Space and Derbyshire Carers Association.
The hub will meet once a month from 9.30am – 11.30am and will alternate between two locations – Dovedale Day Service in Derby and Midway Day Service in Ilkeston. The hub is open to anyone with dementia, their carers and families. You can book your place by emailing the Specialist Day Services team or call 01332 866980 opt 1.
