Tumi joins Derbyshire Healthcare on 16 September from Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust where he was the Trust’s Interim Director of Nursing.

A mental health nurse by background, Tumi has worked in nursing across a number of organisations holding a range of significant leadership posts, including a previous role at Derbyshire Healthcare as Interim Director of Nursing and Patient Experience in 2022/2023.

Tumi said: “I’m thrilled to be returning to Derbyshire Healthcare on a permanent basis as Director of Nursing, AHPs, Quality and Patient Experience. I am particularly passionate about the kinds of health services that Derbyshire Healthcare provides, including mental health services, addiction services and children’s and family health services. I welcome all the new and exciting opportunities that this role will bring to help support those who are vulnerable in our communities so they can live long and fulfilling lives.

“I am particularly looking forward to the new Making Room for Dignity facilities opening and the benefits these will bring to our patients. I also look forward to working closely with service users, colleagues and partners to help support the Trust on its improvement journey to deliver excellent care.”

His appointment follows a rigorous national recruitment process led by Derbyshire Healthcare’s Chief Executive, Mark Powell, with support from members of the Executive team and a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Mark said: “We look forward to welcoming Tumi back to Derbyshire Healthcare. We are confident that Tumi will bring a wealth of knowledge to this role, ensuring all voices are considered and taken seriously, which will help create a positive and inclusive environment for patients, staff and visitors.

“I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Dave Mason who served as the Trust’s Interim Director of Nursing and Patient Experience from October 2023 until August 2024.  Dave joined the Trust at a time of change and helped provide much needed stability and leadership.

“I would also like to thank Michelle Bateman, Executive Director of Nursing, AHPs and Quality at Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, who took up the Trust’s Director of Nursing role before Tumi formerly commenced in post on a permanent basis.”

Another Board appointment was made earlier in the year by Derbyshire Healthcare. In June 2024, Rebecca Oakley was appointed to the role of Director of People and Inclusion on a permanent basis, following a competitive selection process. Rebecca previously worked at the Trust as Deputy Director of People and Inclusion before taking the temporary role of Interim Director of People, Organisational Development and Inclusion.

Rebecca has worked in the NHS in Derbyshire for 20 years, working across a range of HR and corporate teams, including organisational development, service improvement and communications. Rebecca holds an MBA in senior leadership and a postgraduate certificate in clinical leadership.
