Derbyshire Healthcare colleague Clare Exton has been invited to attend the 2022 Women of the Year Luncheon and Awards in recognition of her services to healthcare and the NHS.
Clare, a Community Mental Health Support Worker in the South Derbyshire and South Dales Older Adult Team, will attend the event at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham on 1 April as a guest of Ruth May, Chief Nursing Officer for England.
This year’s Women of the the Year awards will honour women of the NHS and Clare may receive an award on behalf of colleagues working across the health service, alongside other nursing and midwifery guests at the event.
As well as being shortlisted for a Trust award in previous years for her use of life stories and memory boxes to support older people, Clare has campaigned nationally to change the law around embryo fertilisation research to help those at risk of mitochrondrial disease and has been interviewed by the BBC, ITV and Sky News. Clare also put her research skills to good use by doing a secondment with Derbyshire Healthcare’s Research team in 2015.
In 2018, Clare gained a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care at the University of Derby, in order to become an Assistant Practitioner – a skilled support worker who can assist registered nurses in delivering high quality, patient-centred care. On top of all that, Clare is also a carer.
Clare was nominated by Carolyn Green, Derbyshire Healthcare’s Director of Nursing and Patient Experience.

Clare described the invitation as “brilliant… I didn’t think it was genuine at first! I couldn’t be happier.”
