Making_a_positive_difference_ribbon.jpgITV soap opera Coronation Street is focusing this month on a storyline involving suicide and suicide bereavement.

It has been revealed that the character of Aidan Connor, played by actor Shayne Ward, dies by suicide. Episodes of the soap in May will deal with Aidan’s death and the aftermath for his bereaved family and friends. Viewers have been made aware of the story through articles in the national press and features on TV.

If you, or anyone you know, have been or might be affected by this storyline, it may help to talk about it.

You can talk to a friend, a family member, a GP or a counsellor, or use one of the helplines listed on our ‘help in a crisis’ page. Online support is also available at CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), a movement against male suicide; and Support After Suicide, a network of organisations supporting people who have been bereaved or affected by suicide.

The Trust has a suicide prevention strategy and is a member of the National Suicide Prevention Alliance.
