Library Services

All Derbyshire Healthcare employees, Trust volunteers, and students on clinical placements within the Trust will have access to the Library and Knowledge Service based at Kingsway Hospital in Derby.

To join, please complete a library registration form and e-mail or send to the library.        

Services available:

Book loans - Registered users may borrow up to 10 books at any one time for a period of four weeks. Books may be renewed up to a maximum limit of five times, but are subject to recall if required by another borrower.

Library catalogue - To find out what books and e-books are available, renew your books and request or reserve books, please visit the library catalogue

Book and journal requests - If you cannot find the book or journal article you're looking for in the library catalogue, the Library and Knowledge Service can usually obtain them for you through other routes. Please contact the library for more information.

Literature searching – The Library and Knowledge Service provides a literature search service to assist with searching for book or journal article.

Electronic resources and OpenAthens - A wide range of information including journals, databases and alerting services, is available electronically via NICE Evidence Services. This includes nationally and locally purchased resources.

You will need to register for an OpenAthens account before you can access them. Registering for an Open Athens account is easy. Go to https://openathens.nice.org.uk/ and follow the on-screen instructions.

Once registered you can manage your account at: www.athensams.net/myathens

Where can you find us? 

The Library and Knowledge Service is based at the Ashbourne Centre, Kingsway Hospital in Derby. There is a small collection of books and journals at the Hartington Unit in Chesterfield too. 

The Library and Knowledge Service will deliver a remote service using electronic resources and the postal system for all Derbyshire Healthcare staff.

Staffed opening times: 

Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm

Out of hours access is available with a swipe card from 6.15am to 7.30pm, 7 days a week. If you need your swipe card enabling for the library door contact the General Office, Kingsway House at Kingsway Hospital.
