Infant Feeding Team

Breast-feeding

The Infant Feeding Team provides mothers and families, both antenatally and postnatally, with advice and assistance to make informed feeding choices and also with the provision of appropriate support. The aim being for those women who choose to breastfeed to enable them to do so for as long as they wish; therefore improving health outcomes. 

The service also provides training and support to the Health Visiting Teams, local children’s centre staff and GPs.


Referral criteria:

1. All antenatal (A/N) and postnatal clients living in the following five Derby wards: 

  • Mackworth-Morley
  • Chaddesden
  • Alvaston
  • Derwent
  • Osmaston- Allenton 

2. All clients experiencing difficulties feeding their infants - via home visits

3. All A/N clients who have previously had a negative breastfeeding (BF) experience – via home visits

4. Any A/N clients to attend infant feeding education session

5. Any breast feeding mother to attend a BF Club for general breast feeding support.

BF Club, Sinfin Children Centre, DE24 9PG - Tues 1.30pm - 2.30pm

BF Club, North Chaddesden Children’s Centre, DE21 4NP - Wednesday 2pm - 3pm

BF Club, Rosehill Sure Start, DE23 6WY - Friday 11am - 12.30pm

BF Club, Chellaston Children’s Centre, DE73 6PZ - Tuesday 11.30am - 12.30pm

BF Club, Alvaston Children’s centre, DE24 8UZ - Wednesday 11am - 12.30pm

BF Club, Mackworth-Morley Sure Start, DE22 4BD - Fri 1pm - 2pm

BF Club, Derwent Youth & Community Centre, DE21 6BD - Wednesday 1.30pm - 2pm

BF Club, Beckett Children’s Centre, DE22 3WR - Friday 11am - 12noon

 

Antenatal education sessions

Monthly 1.5 hours sessions rotating around the following :

  • North Chaddesden Children’s Centres, DE21 4NP

  • Step In Family Centre, DE1 1GJ

  • Alvaston Children’s Centres, DE24 8UZ

 

Referral mechanism

  • Automatic for those in the five areas identified via Royal Derby Hospital

  • Self-referral via telephone

  • Attendance at A/N education session

  • Attendance at a BF Club.


Referrals received from

  • Daily from the Royal Derby Hospital for those clients living in the five identified wards

  • Clients can self-refer via the telephone

  • Health visitors, children centre staff and GPs can referrer via telephone

  • Health visitors and children centres can refer clients to a BF Club

  • Infant Feeding Specialist at Royal Derby Hospital

  • Other professionals.
