Carolyn has far reaching experience as a mental health nurse for 19 years. Working in the West and South of London, she has spent the majority of her nursing career working in inpatient care, along with time in the community working her way from Staff Nurse to Deputy Director.
Carolyn is passionate about developing staff to provide the very best healthcare services possible and driving quality standards and research based practice in everything the Trust does.
Her key achievements include the development of early intervention services for psychosis, including the design and set up of LEO inpatient services for young people in Brixton. This inspired her to move into child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) where she was the lead nurse and multi professional lead for other disciplines in CAMHS. Throughout her career, Carolyn has taken a family orientated approach to service design and this was part of her working in developing evidence based education across her work in education services. Recovery, equality, employment and involvement of those with a lived experience are key threads of all of her work in service evaluation and quality improvements that she has developed.
An example of this is Carolyn’s work to develop novel apprenticeships for individuals with a lived experience of mental distress to form the future workforce of SLaM’s Recovery College.
